VDO Design & Animation Brings Simple Elegance to News 13 Orlando
Orlando, FL: Clear communication and connection to the community. That’s what “All Local, All the Time” means for News 13 in Orlando. To beautifully emphasize the 24-hour news channel’s commitment to local coverage, the Brighthouse station selected VDO Design & Animation to create an eye-catching new graphics package.
“When you’re on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, looking fresh and original is critical,” said Dianne Streyer, VDO’s VP & General Manager. “Orlando is famous for its gorgeous scenery, so we naturally took advantage of that. But we added even more brains to the beauty by adding “pop-ups” that give viewers key details of whatever story is currently airing. The graphics really support the station’s position. They’re just the right combo of attention-getting, very local and easy to understand.”
The pop-ups also serve as important navigation tools, giving viewers a brief synopsis of stories as they air. This further adds to the clarity and communication that gives News 13 a competitive edge in the Orlando market.
VDO’s design team used three distinct color palettes to highlight the station’s different dayparts. The package also includes a flexible array of segment opens. This is a key advantage, allowing the 24-hour news station to give a fresh, new feel to a continuous stream of news and information.
“Bright, simple, elegant and sparkly. That’s the feeling the station wanted to project,” said Diane Foliek, VDO’s Senior Designer. “We incorporated that clear, fresh positioning into every graphic. We focused on interesting, hyper-local images, from orange groves to downtown Orlando. Every element in the package reminds viewers that News 13 is Orlando.”
